Developed primarily to help customers conform to cleaning and disinfection criteria set in International guidelines. AquaBlue is a unique pre-filled detergent pouch that allows detergent solution to be flushed through the air / water channel system at the bedside.
The air / water channel cannot be brushed and therefore pre-cleaning this channel system at the bedside is imperative.
High levels of bioburden have been found in the air / water channel system in scientific articles.
Clinical guidelines regarding cleaning the detergent flushing of the air / water channel at the bedside:
BSG 2016: Pre-cleaning. Before the endoscope is detached from the light source water and detergent should be sucked through the working channel in order to clear gross debris.
Similarly, the air and water channels should be irrigated with detergent to expel any blood, mucus and other debris.
AORN 2018: Steps for performing pre-cleaning should include flushing the air / water and other channels of the endoscope alternately with the cleaning solution and air.
WEO: Pre-cleaning: The endoscope channels must be flushed through using an appropriate detergent solution.
Clinical data: Pajkos et al assessed 13 biopsy channels and 12 air channels removed from 13 endoscopes that had been sent to an endoscope processing centre. Scanning electron microscopy showed that biofilm was present on 5 of the 13 biopsy channels and on all 12 of the air channel samples.
